Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stripped Threads bolt hole, thread insert, heli coil

Question
I have  stripped threads in a bolt hole that holds the starter on B/S engine. Is there any way to repair. Maybe something liquid etc to put in hole and then use a tool & Die kit to cut new threads without making hole bigger.

Answer
Hi wes,

I have found that liquid steel or other epoxies don't hold up well for thread reapir.  I would suggest a Heli-Coil thread insert, which has threads on the inside and outside.  The damaged hole is tapped to accomodate the insert.  A kit may be available for rent.

Let me know how you make out.
