Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler 25 hp, 4 quarts, dixie chopper

I have a 25 hp kohler 210 hours 2004 model on a Dixie chopper and it is loosing 1 quart of oil every hour of mowing. The compression is good and it is not leaking on the garage floor when not running? what could it be? I have put 4 quarts in the last 4 or 5 hours of running?
please help!

Hi Rickie,

If it is not leaking, then it must be burning the oil.  There would be some smoking.  Oil comsumption could be caused by oil leaking past the piston rings or the valve guides.  Also an overpressurized, unvented crankcase, which would push oil into the carb if there is no overflow to the ground.
