Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B & S engine noise, starter clutch, type engines

Question
I have several gas powered items with B & S engines including a generator, lawn mower and kids go cart.  My generator makes a loud squealing noise upon start up.  Assuming there is a problem I shut it down.  I thought it might be a clutch issue.  Am I right?  Where on the engine is it located?  I am handy and have taken many of these type engines apart.  I believe I could do a repair with some guidance.  What are your thoughts?

Answer
The starter clutch is located behind the starter pulley.  You will need to remove the starter housing engine cover to access the clutch.

There is a special tool to remove the clutch but I have read where others have used different tools to un-screw the clutch.

You may be able to take some sandpaper and clean the crankshaft clutch stub and the inside of the clutch to prevent the squealing.
Let me know if this helps.
