Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snapper lawnmower problem, snapper lawnmower, light oil

Question
I just purchased a used Snapper lawnmower. It starts great but then it starts squealing and the start cord keeps popping out everytime it squeals. Can you help me. Thank you

Answer
Hi Deb,

I suspect the bendix unit.  It is located under the recoil assembly.  It connects the recoil hub with the crankshaft top and when working, allows a one way connection only.  It is probably dry, maybe dirty and in need of lubricating with a light oil.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
