Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Broken mower, briggs stratton, engine gasket

Question
Hi...
I own a 3.5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton mower that crapped out on me. It simply revvs like crazy and almost stalls out. I tried replacing the spark plug and the air filter, but it didn't help. Problem seems to be the fuel intake. What can I try to fix this so I can sell it? I need a good mechanics website or something so I can try to adjust the carburator.

Thanks,
Neal

Answer
Hi Neal,

Check for an air leak at the carb-to-engine gasket, which would cause a lean condition.  Next, check the governer spring and carb linkage, including the throttle plate.  Adjust the jets but make a note of where they are now so you can return them if no help.

Let me know what you find.
