Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower cord wont pull, briggs and stratton, personal pace

Hi Eric,

I just bought a brand new lawn-mower, a Toro Model 20041 Personal Pace Electric Start with Briggs and Stratton engine.  After cutting about 2/3 of my lawn, the cord won't pull unless I fuss with it a great deal.  I have to move the mower around and try pulling the cord over and over (20 or more attempts) until I am able to get it to pull. I've cleaned the deck, so there is no obstruction with the blade.  Any advice or should I take it back?  Thanks.

The starter pawls on the starter may be sticking.  If the mower is brand new and you're having trouble then the starter could be defective...a warranty issue.  Most warranty problems show up within the first few hours of operations.

Did you discuss the problem with the Toro dealer where you purchased the mower?
