Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Installation of Solenoid, briggs and stratton, hp briggs

Question
I have a Murray select  42" 16.5 hp Briggs and Stratton twin riding mower. I have replaced the solenoid and the starter, but not sure I hooked the solenoid back up correctly.
The solenoid has two ponts on top, two bolts on bottom and and a tab that sticks out the front.
I have a large red wire that comes from the battery, a large red wire that comes from the starter, a black wire which I know connects to the tab, a small red wire with a fuse on it, a small green wire and a small black wire.
I know the small green and the small black wire go in the same spot becuase i twisted them together when I took them off the old solenoid, I believe the were connected to the top right bolt. I believe the large red wire from the starter was connected to the bottom right bolt. What i'm not sure about is where the large red wire from the battery connects and the small red wire with the fuse on it connects. Could you please help me get the wiring straight.

Thanks Kat :)

Answer
Hi Kat,

The small red wire with the fuse receives battery power, through the keyswitch.  That goes to one of the small terminals. When power is applied to that terminal it activates the solenoid and connects/switches on, the two large terminals, sending power from the battery to the starter, through the large cables.
Extra wires need to go accordingly.  You need to test them to find out if they are ground wires or for accessories. They may connect to ground, to the terminal that comes from the battery (to supply constant power) or to the small terminal that comes from the keyswitch.

Let me know how you make out.
