Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No spark tecumseh, cart frame, go cart

Question
Eric, I have a Tecumseh 9hp on the back of a go-cart that I recently picked up. The engine fired up after about five tries and ran good. I shut it down and began grinding and scraping the rust off the cart frame to restore it. After paint, the engine was placed back on and now it will not fire. Did I ruin the ground by painting over the engine mount plate? I changed out the plug, nothing. There is one wire that comes from the magneto and attaches to the recoil shroud and another wire that comes from the kill key. I have removed all paint from these wires and the area on the recoil shroud, still nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Dis-connect the kill wire from the side/back of the coil and check for spark.  If there is still no spark, remove the coil and clean the contact area with sandpaper.  Install coil, set the gap between the coil and flywheel magnets to .010 and then check for spark.  If no spark is present then the coil is bad.

Let me know what you find.
