Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Trimmer Leaks Fuel, fuel delivery system, plastic fuel tank

Question
My trimmer (Homelite ST-385) fuel delivery system consists of a plastic fuel tank, 2 thin rubber hoses and two carburetor inlet/outlet lines (ports). The rubber hoses run directly through the tank wall and connect to the carburetor lines. I have fuel either leaking from the top of where the fuel lines connect to the carburetor lines or at the tank wall where the rubber lines pass through.

My questions are: 1) are there any fuel line clamps made for this purpose? 2) is there a way to seal around where the hoses pass through the tank wall? 3) would replacing the hoses simply solve all the problems even though they still simply pass through the tank wall?

Answer
Hi Steve,

There are no clamps made for this or usually required.  I suspect the lines have gotten hard and may have shrunk.  Try new lines.  There usually is a rubber seal that the lines pass through at the tank.  This may need to be replaced also.  If needed, you could use small Ty-Wraps as clamps.

Let me know how you make out.
