Hi Eric.  I have a small 17hp B&S MTD lawn tractor that I mow my mother in laws yard with.  Last weekend it rained and was slippery.  I slid down a hill and rolled the tractor over.  I slid down the hill and the tractor was upside down and ran for a few seconds befor I could reach it.  It shut off by itself.  I turned it back over and the only thing I could see was damaged was the seat.  I went to start the mower but nothing happen.  The tractor didn't make any noises at all.  I waited a few days a tried it again.  Same thing, no noise.  I thought maybe the battery was dead so I jumped it.  I noticed that when I pushed realy hard on the clutch, the motor would spin for a split second then stop.  I played with it for about an hour with no luck.  I felt the wire that runs to the starter and it was very warm. Is there some sort of saftey on these or do you think the starter might be bad?  Thank you so much for your time.

Remove the spark plug and see if the engine will turn over.  There may be oil in the cylinder.

Let me know what happens.

Eric,
I took the spark plugs out and it turned over.  One of the the plugs were wet and it looked like oil.  The other was dry. I cleaned them both up and put one of them back into the side that was dry.  I tried to turn it over but it didn't turn at all.  Some oil came out of the other spark plug hole. So I took that one back out, and put one on the other side.  It turned over.  No oil came out of the other side. Could it still be oil in that side?  If so, how do I clean it out?  Thanks so much,

Ray

Answer
It's very likely oil is still in the cylinder.  Remove both plugs and crank the engine to remove the oil.  You can use some carb cleaner and spray it into the cylinder to help thin the oil.

Don't crank too long at one time...you may burn-up the starter.  Crank the engine for a few seconds, let it sit a couple of minites then crank again.

Let me know what happens.
