Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn mower(craftsman 5.5hp push mower), oil drain, busy holiday

Question
(it is only a year or so old and has had no problems)Today after i had mowed my yard i turned on its side so the exhaust is facing down and the air filter is facing up(while it was off)to clean it.  I heard and saw oil dripping.  And oil was leaking from the air filter and the exhaust.  I took off the exhaust and let the oil drain out and cleaned out the air filter, and let all the oil drain out. Then i put new oil in and started it.  It starts but it is smoking alot and is not as powerful seems like its half throttle.  Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Answer
Hi Daniel,

Sorry for my delay.  It was a busy holiday here.

Oil has just gotten into places where it normally isn't.  The excess oil should burn off after a while.  Just make sure that the oil level in the crankcase is correct.  You may need to replace the spark plug.

I am swamped with questions and can't give follow up answers until next week.  Sorry.

Good Luck,
Michael
