Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding lawnmower turns but does not start, riding lawnmower, grass hay

Question
I was cutting grass with my Ford LT10 when I hit a thick patch of grass(hay) and the mower stalled.  When I tried to start it again, it just turns and sputters as if it wants to start, but it won't.  I checked the oil before starting to cut the grass and it was ok. When it stalled, I checked it again and it was low.  I added some oil and made no difference.  The next day I checked the oil again and now there was too much in it.  Any help will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Eugene,

If the oil level is very overfull, you will need to lower it.  If just a bit high, you probably can run it as is.  If it tries to pull back on the recoil handle as you try to start it, then the flywheel key may have sheared.

Let me know what you find,
Michael
