Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 5.5 HP Rear Bag Mower, high pitch, honda engine

Question
Michael,

I need some help.  I just got a brand new Craftsman 5.5 HP self propelled mower with a Honda engine and it works great except for one thing, I notice this noise coming out of the front drive housing where the belt is.  It makes this noise as if the belt is slipping like a high pitch.  If I run it on the street on a flat surface it doesn't do it too much, but on the grass since it's kind of bumpy, it does it all the time.  Is there any easy fix?  I looked at the belt and it looks awfully loose for me.  Help! this sound is driving me nuts!

Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

If the belt looks loose it may be.  I can't tell you exactly how to adjust it without seeing it.  Maybe you can adjust the cable for the drive engagement.  On the street does it do this if you hold it back, creating resistance?

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
