Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower help, height adjusters, side discharge

Hi Micheal
maybe you can help me , I just recently bought a Craftsman 4.5 hp Side discharge lawnmower from Sears. This may sound like a stupid question , but which way do you set the Height adjusters if you want to cut the grass high. Do you move them all forward away from the lawnmower or all backwards. This is so confusing !! please help if can.

Hi Marcia,

Usually the front wheels lower when you move the levers forward.  This will raise the mower and cut the grass higher.  To tell, you can place an object or block of wood next to the bottom of the deck, then as you adjust the wheel height you will see if the deck is going up or down.
