Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): troy built 4 cycle trimmer, fuel tank, fuel filter

Question
I have a 4 cycle Troy Built trimmer. It died on me the other day and I tired the following things. I cleaned the air filter, cleaned the fuel filter, changed the oil, changed the spark plug, checked the spark arrestor, put clean fresh fuel in the fuel tank. I can get it started part of the time but will not stay going longer than 30 seconds. Small adjustments in carburetor helped a little bit. Any help would be appriciated.

Answer
Hi William,

If opening the carb's jets doesn't help, then I would suspect water, dirt or gum in the carb.  You will need to remove it, disassemble and clean all the internal openings, probing with a small wire.  Finally, blow it out with compressed air.  Add a carb kit if you can.

Let me know how you make out.
