Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snapper mower drive plate tension, snapper mower, rubber wheel

Question
Hi michael
I have an old snapper riding mower, model 3311x5s
The engine runs fine but the drive plate /rubber wheel seems to need tighter contact it goes but keeps stopping & I have to push it with a leg to get it rolling again. I can't seem to find any way to adjust the rubber wheel tighter to the drive plate.  was hoping you might have ran into this and could tell me how the adjustment is made
thanks CcRider

Answer
Hi CC,

I am not familiar with your model but I have worked on similar drives where the folloing problems that can lead to slipping.  Replace the rubber wheel if it is old, hard and glazed.  Replace the spring if it is weak.  Check other areas to make sure the slipping is only coming from the rubber wheel / disk contact and that nothing is binding and preventing the mower from rolling freely.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
