Hi, I want to figure if its worth my time to fix an old gas leaf blower,  The company that made it
is Roof, it has a large amount of attachments,
including a front leaf vacuum. It has a Techumseh
gas motor,  the only number I can find on the motor is the following:  HS50-67019A 41720

Can you tell me if its worth my time and effort, and how much it would cost me for this specific gas engine -

Thanks

Ken

Is this a big roller type blower or a back pack/hand held model?

Guessing from the engine model I'm assuming it is a larger blower.

Let me know.

Answer
I would check the impeller.  If the equipment was used as a vac then the impeller can be damaged...this is normal.  Normally the tips of the impeller will show signs of pitting and well be very sharp and thin.

If the impeller is in decent shape the you need to check the egnine for wear.  Blowers, along with garden tillers are used in very harsh dusty enviroments.  This fine dust gets past the air filter and into the engine causing a lot of wear.  Remove the carb and check the intake port.  If it contains a lot of black built up inside the intake port then a decent amount of dust has entered the engine.  Also check the carb butterfly shaft.  The shaft is made of soft brass and will also show signs of wear.

Many times the engines will continue to run fine even if dust has entered the engine...they will just have lower compression.

What are you planning on using the blower for?

Let me know.
