Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn mower, kill switch, lawnmower

Hey this is a great site! I was wondering if you could tell me whats happened to my lawnmower. The handle that I hold that keeps it running ( when you let it go, the mower turns off) stays up. Then, when I go to pull the cord to start it, the cord is really tight and nothing happens. Any ideas? your help is appreciated!!!!!Oh, its a Frigidaire model r20356 probably about 3 years old.

Hi Sarah,

Are you saying that the handle, stays up and you can't squeeze it down again?  The handle operates a kill switch and a blade brake.  If the handle's cable had broken, then when you hold it down, it would not release the brake.  If so, then check the cable.  Trace it from the handle down to the other end.
