Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Motor revs, murray lawnmower, engine gasket

Question
I have an almost brand-new Murray lawnmower that have only recently started revving while I'm mowing...I've read several posts here and you say that it's almost always the carberator (sp?)...I've NEVER done any kind of repair like this...don't even really know where it is on the mower...can you give me some specific instructions on how to disassemble and fix it?  Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Brad,

The carb is at the other end of the fuel line that comes from the fuel tank.  If the reving is up and down, like the carb is hunting for a steady speed, then I would suspect a weak governer spring.  If it revs to a high speed, then I would ckeck for a loose carb or a torn carb to engine gasket.

Let me know what you find.
Michael
