Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray rider--blade pulley, spindle bearings, belt pulley

Question
Hello Michael,

I own an older murray rider and yesterday it began smoking when the blade was engaged.  I stopped my son (he was running it) and took a look and found some bearing remnants and the blade would no longer turn--the pulley attached to that blade will not spin.  In looking quickly at it this morning, it likes I need to remove the pulley by taking off the blade and put new bearings in?  How do I go about doing this if this is what I need to do....thanks, eric

Answer
Hi Eric,

As you mention, it sounds like the spindle bearings are shot.  You will need to remove the blade, the belt, pulley and spindle itself.  You will then either be able to replace each bearing or the entire spindle, depending on what parts are available.

Good Luck,
Michael
