Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): removal of chain sprocket and clutch, chain sprocket, crankshaft seal

Question
i have a mcculloch pro mac 610 chainsaw i would like to know how to take the gear sprocket and clutch off? I want to replace the sprocket. I took the nut off of the shaft.

Answer
If you have the nut off the shaft the clutch drum should pull off; it may be tight due to rust on the needle bearing inside the clutch drum.

If I remember correctly the sprocket just slides on/off the clutch drum,i.e. you can just replace the sprocket.

NOTE:  check the washer that sits behind the clutch drum/sprocket.  It should not be worn or beveled.  Remove the washer, make sure it is flat and smooth.  Clean around the shaft seal.  I've seen dust and other debris get behind the washer and ruin the crankshaft seal...the seal takes a long time to install.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
