Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pipe/tube bender, wall thicknesses, tube bender

Question
I am not that experienced with tube bending hardware. Is there a difference for tubes and pipes? Which is better if i wasnt to make something that wont break. I am building a large gokart and a small sail boat....would this make the tubes fragile?
I hear that some times they make the metal more brittle.
I really appreciate any information you could share with me.
Is there a difference with the thickness of the tube?

Answer
Hi Brandon,

Pipes are basically the same as tubing.  Metal does "work harden" when it is bent or formed.  Sometimes it can be annealed (Softened) by heating it and letting it slowly cool.
Tubing comes in all wall thicknesses.  You would need to consult an engineering handbook for strengths of a particular size when designing something, especially where safety is involved.

Good Luck,
Michael
