Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Starter Problem with Yard-Man 15.5 Hp Riding Mower, jumper cable, starter problem

Question
Marc,
This weekend I tried to start my 6 year old Yard-Man 15.5 Hp riding mower.  Unfortunately, when I turned the key, nothing happened.  Thinking it was the old battery, I purchased a new one and installed it.  Now, all I am hearing is a clicking noise when I turn the key.  Did I purchase a bad battery or does it sound like I need a new starter?
Thanks in advance...

Answer
First try using a jumper cable to cross the solenoid terminals (big ones).  If the starter turns, the problem is either a bad connection or a bad solenoid.  If the starter doesn't turn, it is likely the starter is defective.  Let me know what you find.
