Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 3.0 hp b&s dies under load on a minibike, briggs stratton, hp briggs

i have a minibike with a 3 hp briggs stratton on it it runs fine on a stand with no load but when i get on it its will bog until it dies if it is givin anymore than a small touch of throttle it dies. i figure its not getting enough gas but there are not anymore adjustments than a idle screw. and i have torn it down its clean and seems to ahve nothing broken. im not sure of the engine year or anything its older though.

Hi David,

There should be a high speed mixture screw, especially if the engine is older.  I agree with you, it is probably starving for fuel.  You might need to re-clean the carb.  Probe each and every small hole with a small wire.  Check the float setting and open it a bit if it's not right.  Another possibility is that the engine is worn out and has low compression.
