Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Simplicity Snowblower Auger not engaging, simplicity snowblower, auto parts stores

Question
We recently purchased a 15 year old 5hp Simplicity snowblower.  When we got it all was well.  Now that we need it, the auger is not engaging. Could this be a belt that is broken or loose?  It starts ok and the engine runs fine.  If so - is this something that can be changed easily?  Would I need to put it up on supports to acccess the bottom of the machine?  I have limited engine knowledge.  We can take it in to be serviced, but if I can do it at home, I will try.

Answer
Most snowblowers have a belt like you said.  The belt is probably the problem.  You should be able to replace the belt from the top, without raising the machine. The belt is usually located under a plastic belt cover.

You should be able to purchase a new belt at most auto parts stores; just don't tell them it's for a snowblower because many stores will say they don't carry snowblower parts.

Let me know what you find.
