Hi Jeff,

That sounds strange.  Did the new gear have the coil magnets on it or was is just a gear ring?  It seems like the timing is now off.

Michael

IT WAS A GEAR RING--THE TEETH WORE OFF ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT.
WHAT KIND OF TIMING IS INVOLVED

Answer
Hi Jeff,

I was suspecting the ignition timing, which fires the spark plug when the magnets located in the flywheel side, pass by the coil.  If the magnets were not involved in the ring gear swap then the timing should not have changed.  If the flywheel key is an offset type and was reversed, then that would change the timing.  Other than timing, I can't think what would have made such a drastic change in the engines' running.
