Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tecumseh snowblower, crankcase oil, drive assembly

Question
I was using the snowblower and tried to change gears from reverse to forward and now it won't move. it's a 10hp model #71-52590-5. What should I check first?

Answer
Hi Linda,

First, remove the access cover on the top and check for a broken belt.  Next, I would remove the cover on the bottom or lower back area.  Look at the drive assembly as you move the speed/direction lever and watch for something broken or worn.

Either raise the machine on a stand or tip it forward no more that 45 degrees.  If you tip it over sideways or on the front completely, crankcase oil will get onto where it shouldn't be, causing some minor problems.

Let me know how you make out.
