Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 5hp-motor, briggs stranton, internal passages

Question
Hi Marc

I have a 5hp briggs & stranton engine that has not been run for two years.
I cleaned fuel supply, but I must keep full choke to keep it running.

Thank You Joe

Answer
If the engine requires full choke to keep running, there is a blockage inside the carb.  You will need to thoroughly clean the carb, including pushing a piece of tag wire through all of the internal passages and follow up with aerosol carb cleaner.  Make sure everything is spotless and replace and gaskets, etc. that may have deteriorated because of exposure to old fuel.  Hope this helps.
