well sure enough there were points and condenser.i repplaced with new and now have a good spark.........however engine still won start. poured gas in spark plug hole and engine still won t fire...........compression is about 75psi........i checked compression on other mowers i have  (that run) and the results were the same 75psi. i got spark, got compression  what am i missing that i can t get this thing to run?..........thnaks

hi michael, i have a gilson snowblower 1970 model with briggs and stratton engine (don t know HP no markings)......... i have no spark....... all safety swithches work have no idea where to begin troubleshooting especially the coil. WOuld this engine have points and condenser? please help winter is almost here.thanks

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure if the engine came though with points and condenser but I suspect so.  I would pull the flywheel and take a look.  You will either find points or a coil and can go from there.

Hi Paul,

With compression and spark, all you should need is fuel and air.  Try squirting fuel or starting fluid into the carb intake and while cranking over, listen for some sign of life.  What did you set the point gap at?  Ignition timing is important also.
