Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): briggs/stratton 5 hp snowblower carb rebuild, briggs stratton, throttle shaft

Question
i have carb disassembled and am trying to remove seat? also any pertinent advise. thanks!

Answer
The best way I know of to remove the seat is to tap it with a 1/4-20 bottoming tap.  Then using a 1/4-20 Gr.8 bolt, turn the bolt into the threaded seat until it bottoms.  If you continue to turn the bolt, it will break through the bottom of the seat and start to push on the carb body which will push the seat out.  To re-install, make sure everything is spotless and without burrs in the hole.  Use some type of small, flat and parallel block to press the new seat back into the carb body.  You may need to notch out a piece of hardwood to accomodate the carb in a press or bench vise so you don't damage the throttle shaft lever when pressing in the new seat.  Do not try to hammer the new seat in...it will end up damaged and leak.  Hope this helps.
