The gas trimmer will only run when I prime the carb with gas. Once the engine has used the gas sprayed into the throat of the carb, the engine dies.
I replaced the carb. with a new one but nothing changed.
Help!

Hey Jerry,
What else did you replace besides the carb? Please let me know and write back. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank-you.
I replaced the spark plug. I have plenty of gas flowing from the fuel line when I disconnect from the carb. The fuel filter seems fine but I don't really know how to tell if the filter is OK. I can easily blow air through the fuel filter. After reading one of your other answers, I took off the muffler and cleaned what little carbon there was off the side of the piston. There was no change after doing this. This trimmer is a model 358.797120, 26 CC auto clutch.
Thanks for your help.

Hey Jerry,
Check the carb. Looks may be deceiving. Soak the carb for an hour and then blow it out with compressed air the soak it again for another half hour and re install.Hope this helps. If it doesn't send me another follow up question.
Mark,
I took off the carb., tore it down to get all rubber off, removed the needles and then soaked in a carb cleaner, washed it off in water and then blew it dry with compressed air. I did this twice before putting carb. back together. No change. I have the high and low needles at 1 1/2 turn. Someone told me that the engine may be so worn that there is not enough compression to pull the fuel into the carb., is this possible? There is a good firm pull when I start it so I feel there is normal compression.
Thanks,
Jerry

Answer
hey Jerry,
That someone may be right. In most cases this may be absolitely right. If you would like to get that back what you should do is replace piston and cyclinder and gaskets. You may have a strong pull but it may be unlikely that you still have compression.
