Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): wiring system, briggs stratton, hovercraft project

Question
I have just purchased a brand new Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 20 hp twin cylinder for use in my hovercraft project. The model number is 351777.

Can you help me with the wiring (key-start and with a solenoid)for ignition system and kill switch.

I also intend to install a tachometer in my hovercraft. Can I use a tachometer used in a 4-cylinder automobile?

Answer
Try this link...it gives a few different wiring diagrams: (http://jacques_lacasse.tripod.com/Diagrams/ElectDiagr.htm).  Otherwise, check with any dealer that will let you have a look at a garden tractor electrical diagram.

Because the ignition is self-contained, the only type of tachometer you can use is an inductive one but I'm not sure what's available for an inductive tach that isn't hand-held.  Generally, you use a hand-held tach to set the max RPM and idle RPM and the engine runs at WOT while in use.  There is no real need for a tach once the RPM is dialed in because the engine is governed.

Hope this helps.
