Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pull cord replacement on lawnmower, pulley, lawn mower

Can you tell me what steps are involved in replacing the pull cord on a Tecumseh 6.5 HP Yardworks lawnmower?

Or... is this a job I should leave to a professional.

I'd start by winding the pulley first before taking the starter apart.  The starter should be very similar to yours with the exception that you may have a screw instead of a pin.

Basically just wind the pulley and install the rope...it's pretty easy.
