Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda lawn mower leaking gas, internal passages, honda lawn

Question
Hey Marc. My dad gave me his Honda self-propelled/ push mower this past weekend. He purchased it 3 years ago, used it about 20 times, then let it sit unused for about 2 years.

When I tried to use it last night, I noticed that fuel drips out behind the air filter area when I turn the knob that controls the fuel flow.

The mower started in choke mode, but when I try to move the engine speed out of choke and into fast, it dies. I was able to mow my yard in choke mode, but gas continued to drip while I mowed until the tank was completely empty.

Any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Answer
Because this mower has been sitting unused and will only run on choke, I suspect the carb needs to be cleaned thoroughly.  Use a piece of tag wire to push through all of the internal passages and follow up with carb cleaner.  While apart, inspect the inlet needle for wear and the float for saturation (full of fuel and won't float).  Hope this helps.
