Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mower Wheel drive, craftsman eager 1, inductive tachometer

Question
I rebuilt the carburetor on a neglected 10+ yr old Craftsman Eager 1 and have it running. When the front wheel drive is engaged, I have to practically run to keep up. The high speed is factory set and I didn't touch it. There appears to be no tension adjustment on the belt. Is there a way to slow the drive down? Is the engine running too fast?  Thanks

Answer
Unfortunately, there is no adjustment.  The engine RPM should be around 3000 - 3200 RPM and can be checked with an inductive tachometer.  It's common for some self-propelled mowers without adjustable speed to be better suited to a sprinter.  Hope this helps.
