Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Changine Spark Plug Wires, spark plug wires, car spark plug

Question
Hey Michael,
Hope your doing well. I need to ask you another question. I have 3.5HP Briggs and Stratton lawn mower. There is no spark at the spark plug plug even when it was replaced. I now realized that the wire is worn down and has corroded. How do i replace the wire. What kind of wire can I use instead of ordering a part from B&S because it takes to long. Can I buy a pack of car spark plug wire? Please let me know how I can replace the wire and what type/brand of wire I can replace it with. Any suggestions are good. Greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Mike,

Sorry for my delay.  Swamped here.

You could replace the wire with an automotive plug wire but it may be hard to remove the old wire and replace it.  Some wires  screw into the coil terminal socket.  Give it a try, as replacing the entire coil would be more costly.  You might be able to get an old but good wire from a repair shop, for free or $1.  Mower wires usually have a copper core and not the graphite radio resistor core that the auto wires have.

Good Luck,
Michael
