Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Eager 1 Tecumseh Lawn Mower, craftsman eager 1, tecumseh engine

Question
I inherited an older lawnmower (7 yrs old).  Am trying to get it to work.
My question is that the arm that that controls the speed is hooked to a spring.  But the arm that controls the butterfly in the carb is not hooked to anything.

Is there a spring missing?

It is a Craftsman Eager 1 tecumseh engine, not sure of the HP.

Thanks,

Brad

Answer
Hi Brad,

Usually the governor linkage is connected by a spring to the carb plate directly or through a second linkage.  If there is nothing connected to the carb plate, then something is missing.  I would either take the mower to a local shop and have then match up the part or bring the engine model and spec numbers and look at a parts book to see what is supposed to be there.

Let me know how you make out.
