I am building a hovercraft and the engine will be used as lift engine. The engine assy has a built-in starter and I will install a starter solenoid in the starter circuit accordingly.
The tachometer is very important.

Question -
I have just purchased a brand new Briggs & Stratton 20 hp Vanguard V2 engine.
Unfortunately there is no owner's manual nor operating manual in the packing box.
Can you please help me out with the following issues:
1. There are yellow and red wires , (red - unconnected) at the side of the engine, what looks like a charging regulator unit. To where should this red wire be connected?
2. Electric start and kill switch - How do I wire up the key-switch electric start and the kill-switch (to switch off) the engine?
3. Tachometer - Can I install a tachometer for this engine and how do I connect the wiring?

this is a very detailed question how good are you at electrical stuff? and does your starter have a built in solenoid? what kind of application are you using this engine for? is it a replacement or a new app? if you give me your email i will send you a copy of your owners manual.
Answerok normally red is + it is the returning power to the battery. and the tach is harder i dont know anyone that does make one for it, but i am checking on it for you. as far as the kill switch there should be a stud near the govenor assy. with a black wire to it. all it does is short to ground to kill it, open for it to run. you can use one switch for all, starting and kill, or different ones which ever you prefer. standard riding mower switches will work if wired properly. yes there are differnet styles and wiring is dependent on the particular switch, most are marked at the terminal side.
