I have a craftsman dlt2000 els extended life twin 22ohv.  when it ran out of gas, i was able to fix that, then it would not start, it was the battery, and we got that charged, but when i tried to move it, the mower would not move at all, it made a sound like it was trying to get into gear, but as i pressed on the gas, it just ran the engine and clicked but would not budge, we can not even push the mower.  how do i get it to move again?
thank you for your time.

Is the tranmsission an automatic hydrostat?

If so, there is a release lever mounted either on the transaxle or the under the seat area.  Engaging this lever should allow you to push the mower.

Let me know what you find.
Eric

I HAVE FOUND THE RELEASE LEVER, BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE CRAFTSMAN IS STUCK HALF IN AND HALF OUT, ONE OF THE REAR TIRES WILL MOVE FORWARD, THE OTHER BACKWARD.  I AM NOT SURE HOW TO GET THE RELEASE TO REINGAGE FULLY, CAN YOU HELP ME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

On most mowers you have to pull the lever and hold it to move the mower.  The tires are supposed to rotate as you described; this is the differential.

Have you ckecked the drive belt?  The brake can also cause the mower not to move.  I once found a stick wedged in the clutch mechanism causing the brake to lock.

Do you have the tractor model number?  It will be a long number with a decimal point after the first three digits.

Send me the model number so I can look up your tranmission.
Eric

We checked the drive belt, it is fine.the brake was fine also, the model number is 917.272281 thank you for all your help.

Answer
If the belt and brake are alright, then the transaxle could be bad.  I looked up your transaxle and it is a hydrostat.  The only other items that could cause the transaxle to fail are the foot or hand lever.  Do you still have the owners manual?
