Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gas blower repair, blower repair, compression tester

Question
A Weedeater gas blower was given to me. It won't start when my husband pulls the cord. What would you suggest we do to get it to start. It's relatively new looking. Thanks for your help.

Answer
First I would replace the spark plug and make sure the fuel is less than 30 days old.

Here's what we always check when a trimmer will not start...these are in order.

Spark/spark plug/ignition system
Compression...using a compression tester
Fuel system

All three quick checks take less than five minutes.  If the trimmer has spark and compression then the only item left is the fuel system, which by the way is normally the problem.  Once in a while we find clogged mufflers, but only in older trimmers.

Let me know what happens.
