Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn mower blade hitting deck, lawn mower blade, spark plug wire

Question
I have a 21" Craftsman rotary lawn mower.  This spring I put a new blade on. It has worked great since April and then 3 weeks ago in the middle mowing the blade starting making contact with the mower creating sparks. I can see on the underside where it is hitting. I ordered another blade thinking this one had some how bent or something.  I can mow for  short time and this it begins to hit and spark again.  Th mower is about 6 years old, should I just get a new one, or is ther an easy fix for this problem.

Answer
Hi Julie,

Have someone stand on the handle or place a large weight on it to tip the mower for access to the underside of the deck.  With the spark plug wire disconnected, try to shake or move the blade or blade spindle.  If they are both solid and not loose, then check the deck to see what is hitting the blade as you turn it.  Maybe part of it is bent and close to the blade's path.  If you can just re-bend what you need to.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
