I have a John deere riding mower 160. My blades are draining my battery! When the blades are engaged, it is draining the battery and if I disconnect the battery, the blades stop. Is this a problem with a short or with PTO?

David, either the battery is bad (does not hold charge) or yor alternator is not working. Using a VOA meter be sure there is 13+ volts across the + and - terminals. If not, the charging systenm is not working. If you do not know whay a voa meter is, I suggest you take it to a Dealer to check it......Best of luck   Bob
