Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower transmission adjustment, honda hr216, spicer transmission

Question
I have a Honda HR216 53 DC self propelled 24'' walk behind mower with a Spicer Transmission . Over the past 5 years ( from new ) the drive wheels are weaker and weaker . Replacing the belt that drives the transmission did not help ( it is snug tight ) - it still drives the wheels when they are lifted off the ground and all 3 speeds work , but will hardly drive the mower  when you set it down . Everything else works 100 % .
Is there an adjustment on the cable or transmission I can't see?

Thanks - Dave Beauchesne

Answer
Several of the Honda's do have an adjustment; it is usually located close to the transmission.  The adjustment usually just moves the cable, but in turn engages the gears more.  I would also lubricate the transmission engaging arm.

I have to go out of town for a sales meeting for the next week but am interested to hear what you find.  See if you can locate the Spicer number on the transmission.

Hope to hear back from you.
