Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Enginie will not start, c briggs, float bowl

I have a 14.5 OHV.I/C Briggs.Model 287707,Type 1235.Code 01227ZD.I have tried to rebuild carb,put new plug in.If you spray carb cleaner in carb it will start and then die.Will I need to just get another new carb for this engine?This is a snapper rear riding lawn mower.Serial # 11349804

I remember replacing a carb years ago, but this is rare.

Does the engine have a fuel pump? I'd look it up but we're in the process of relocating and all my manuals are packed.

Did the problem happen suddenly or has the mower sat for while.
Last question...does the carb have a fuel shut-off solenoid located at the bottom of the float bowl?
