Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere lawnmower wheel repair, john deere lawnmower, shoulder bolt

Question
Hi MArc

I was mowing tonite and all of a sudden the right rear wheel fell off!  It looks like the bolt broke off.   Do you have a clue as to how I can fix this myself?   I'm pretty mechanically inclined.   I have the bolt that I need but don't know how to install it.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Carol

Answer
If you have the correct (shoulder) bolt to replace the wheel, take a look at one of the other wheels to see how it's attached.  Wheel adjusters and mountings come in hundreds of variations so I can't tell you specifically how yours attaches without seeing it.  If the remainder of the old bolt is still in the attachment threads and it will no turn out easily, you may need to use a screw extractor to get it out.  If you don't have the necessary tools to accomplish this, a good shop should be able remove it for a reasonable price.  Hope this helps.
