just got a new 10 hp tecumseh engine with electric start and charging system. We tried starting the other day with no luck. We added a fuel filter and it seems like gas is getting from tank to filter but not from filter to carb. the arrow on the filter is facing the right way. Also are u familiar with charging systems and their setup. We are using the engine on a go kart with a 12 volt battery and lights. I know the positive goes to the starter. Do you hook the charging wire from the engine back to the battery? I appreciate your help ! -John
Answer -
You can connect the charging wire to the battery, but normally they are connected through the ignition switch.

Does your engine have a float bowl style carburetor?  Is it (the fuel system) a gravity feed system or a fuel pump system?

Let me know.
Eric
Yes its a float bowl with a gravity system. I made an exhaust to get the fumes out of the body, could that be the issue?

Answer
I doubt exhaust has much to do with your problem.

Did you receive an owners manual with the engine?
If the fuel tank is mounted to the engine, then I would recommend removing the fuel filter and see what happens.

Is there a fuel shut-off valve on the bottom  of the  tank or on the gas cap.  These are rare these days, but you'll see them once in a while.

The problem is probably so basic that we're over-looking it.

Let me know what you find.  Did the fuel tank come with the engine?
