Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): electrical troubleshooting, key switch, battery terminals

Question
Lawn tractor, 14hp, electrical. 1996.
Problem 1-dead when key is turned, checked battery, terminals, wiring. REPLACED solenoid. Now switch makes solenoid click continuously but no action past switch to starter. Where to check next? Replace switch?

Answer
With the key switch and blades off and the transmission in neutral, try jumping the two large terminals on the solenoid.  If the starter turns the engine over, the problem is with the solenoid or a connection.  If not, the starter or the battery is the problem.  If you suspect it's the battery, fully charge it and have a shop load test it before you proceed.  If you have 12V at the small terminal on the solenoid with the key in the start position and the solenoid doesn't click, the solenoid is faulty.  Hope this helps.
