Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine will idle till throttle is applied., adjustment screws, weedeater

I have both a small Toro tiller and weedeater that have the same issue. They both run at idle and when I apply to much throttle they will both backfire and die or bog down. Any help would be appreciated. Both tiller and weedeater are 2-3 years old.

Start the mixture adjustment screws at 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated and see if the problem is, at least, partially corrected.  If no change, the carbs will need to cleaned thoroughly (especially if you left fuel in them over the winter).  Hope this helps.
