Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower problem, lawnmover, fuel flow

Question
We have a Craftsman rotary lawnmover, it's
less than a year old. When we try to start
it now it starts and then immediately stops.
Have checked the oil and changed to fresh gas.
Any other ideas? Also cleaned the air filter.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Ryan,

I suspect a lack of fuel flow to the engine.  To confirm this, try to restart it by squirting fuel or starting fluid into the carb intake.  If it starts and you can keep it running for 10 seconds or so, then the carb most likely has dirt, debris, gummed fuel or water inside.  You will need to remove the carb, disassemble it, clean all the small internal openings and blow it out with compressed air.

Let me know how you make out.
