Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): weed eater, broken shaft, line spool

Question
My weed eater runs fine and is only 1 year old. My question is how do I fix my problem of the end not spinning at all when it is running? I put
one of those different attachments on it and have had problems every since then. It seems to be stripped or something. The brand is a featherlite plus weed eater. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Mike,

Hopefully the trimmer head is just not seated all the way and the square drive shaft is not connected to the square drive hole.  Loosen the head and rotate the line spool as you push the head on the shaft.  If it WAS all the way on, then I would suspect a broken shaft.  To check it, pull the shaft out of the outer housing or remove the engine and turn both ends.  Shafts are replacable.  The last possibility would be the clutch, which is in the engine housing.

Let me know how you make out.

Good Luck,
Michael
